'Adah' means 'ornament', and 'Zillah' means 'shade' or tanned (Strong's nos.5711 & 6741).
Gen 4:20 And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.
'Jabal' is 'Yabal' in the Hebrew meaning 'stream of water' (Strong's no.2989). There's only one letter difference in the next verse of 'Jubal' his brother. There are a lot of 'bal' endings here. Remember 'Bel' and 'Baal'? These are derivatives letting us know who they worshipped (see my last Letter on Genesis concerning Sargon I, also called in the Assyrian cuneiform tablets 'son of bel'. This 'bel' was the ancient pagan god of Babylonia). This word 'cattle' here is 'miqneh' in the Hebrew meaning 'something bought, i.e. property, but only livestock, abstractly, acquisition' (Strong's no. 4735). If you remember that Jehovah put a curse upon Cain, that the land would not bring abundant crop, might this word cattle here represent a setting up of a livestock trade market? I think this might have been the first 'pork belly' trading', (Just joking).
Gen 4:21 And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
'Jubal', another one of the 'Baal' brothers, is from the Hebrew root 'Yabal' which means 'to flow, stream, to bring (especially with pomp)' (Strong's nos. 3106 & 2986). This 'organ' is the 'panpipe' (Strong's no. 5748).
Ever heard of Pan, the Pan-god, who played on his flute amongst the woods, having a body half-man and half animal? How about Peter-Pan, and I don't mean the peanut butter either. I'm not saying that if you happen to play a panpipe in a symphony orchestra that you would be worshipping the pagan 'god Pan', or anything like that, only that it's truly amazing just where many of today's traditions really spring from.
Gen 4:22 And Zillah, she also bare Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah.
'Tubal-Cain' is two words 'Yabal Qayin' in the Hebrew, meaning 'thou wilt be brought of Cain' (Brown-Driver-Briggs; Strong's no. 8423). 'Naamah ‘translated means 'pleasantness or loveliness' (Strong's no. 5279). As can be seen here, this is the first mention of 'artificers' (fabricator or mechanic) and workers in the metal trades. Supposedly Egypt was the centre of metallurgy, but God's Word here kind of predates that knowledge to the 'land of Nod, east of Eden' doesn't It? Remember, these sons of Cain held a 'curse' for the land and therefore had to resort to other arts and such in order to survive. This is not to say that they didn't farm any, but the land wouldn't bear fully, so they had to re-create the trade commerce of Tyrus to pay others for produce (Don't ask me to document that. You can call it an opinion if you like. However, if you've really gotten into God's Word, and know your history, you should see much Truth in it. Also, just because you might be working in one of these trades does not mean you're a Kenite, i.e. son of Cain).
Gen 4:23 And Lamech said unto his wives, "Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.
24 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, Truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold."
Again, this is not the same Lamech who was the father of Noah. This Lamech here is saying that 'he can kill a young man for wounding him, and a young man just for hurting him'. Well what kind of heart is that? It is murder, and boasting about it! And who was the first murderer? It was Lamech's ancestor Cain. That's the fruit how you will know them. They have a natural inclination to murder, kind of like the old saying about the scorpion who asks the frog for a ride across the river, promises not to sting the frog, then they both get out in the middle, and the scorpion does his thing,
