with something like, "Well since he (Cain) murdered his brother Abel, God left him out of Adam's lineage in Genesis 5 because of his wicked and immoral doings." In other words, they would tie the idea of 'immoral evil' as the reason, and not blood lineage, i.e. that Cain was the son of Satan (serpent). Did you notice that Enos was guilty of an immoral act back in Gen.4:26 with 'profaning' The Name of the LORD? That's why Enos was listed there in Gen.4 at the end of Cain's lineage. But notice Enos is again listed here in Adam's lineage in Gen.5, even though he undoubtedly was guilty of false worship. This points out more the exactness of God's Word when dealing with bloodlines. Though Enos committed an evil act, he was still of the bloodline of Adam, and that's why he is included here again. Cain was not of 'the man Adam's' bloodline, and that's why he is not found here at all in Genesis 5, nor in the bloodline of Christ from Mary, which goes all the way back to 'the man Adam (see Luke 3).

Gen 5:7   And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters:
8    And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died.
9    And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan:
10  And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters:
11  And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died.

Again we see here a distinction from Cain's genealogy back in Gen.4, dealing with these years given of Adam's generations. Seth didn't make a thousand years either. For any that doubt this longevity was real, the Assyrian Tablets gives the years of Sargon I, who migrated to Babylonia circa 3800 B.C.; Sargon I (probably Cain) lived to be over 700 years old according to those Tablets.1

'Cainan' is 'Qeynan' in the Hebrew meaning 'a possession' (Strong's no.7018 & Brown-Driver-Briggs). Nor did Enos make it a full thousand years with Gen.5:11.

Gen 5:12   And Cainan lived seventy years, and begat Mahalaleel:
13    And Cainan lived after he begat Mahalaleel eight hundred and forty years, and begat sons and daughters:
14    And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years: and he died.

'Mahalaleel' is in the Hebrew 'Mahalal'el', which means 'praise of God' (Strong's no.4111). At least we have part of Jehovah's Name here with the 'el' ending, but this 'profaning' of The LORD'S Name evidently was continuing. The influx of the fallen angels with the 'daughters of Adam' and Cain's kingdom probably was the main source of this problem. How is it today? Is it still going on?

I'm going to stop here for now. We'll pick up on Adam's genealogy with the next Letter. These genealogies are very interesting, for they reveal teachings from our Father. That's why they're given. The years given for longevity in Adam's genealogy is important for it gave that generation from which Christ would be born of a method for keeping record, helping to maintain the bloodline purity. That bloodline of Christ was to stay pure until He was born of Mary.

Peace be unto you in Christ Jesus,
Dave Ramey.
