and is not necessarily physical. God's 'consuming fire' event will merely cleanse this ancient earth, and only destroy the evil off of it.

Elements of 2 Peter 3: 3 Scoffers walking after their own lusts... 4 Where is the promise of His coming? 5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the heavens and the earth which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgement and perdition of ungodly men.

Here's the other part of Rev.9 about this five month tribulation by Satan:

Rev 9:10   And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.
11    And they had a king over them,
which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

This false 'king' who will set himself up during this five month tribulation, is 'Abaddon' meaning 'a destroying angel', and in the Greek 'Apollyon', meaning 'a destroyer (i.e. Satan)' (Strong's nos. 3 & 623).

The next Chapter of Genesis 8 will continue the event of Noah's flood, and the meaning it has for God's People today. We will even be given the time of year in which the last or fifth month of the tribulation occurs.
