wrath' upon the wicked, those are the ones who will be 'thrust through' spiritually with the Sword of Christ. So what is that 'Sword'?  It is Christ's two-edged sword, as given in...

Heb.4:12: For the word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword.

Rev.1:16: And He had in His right hand seven stars: and out of His mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and His countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

and is 'The Word of God', not a literal sword So basically, everyone is going to come to know 'The Word of God', and this whether they like It or not, for Christ is That Word.

Micah 4:2: And many nations come, and say, “Come and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in his paths:” for the law shall go forth to Zion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

Ezek.44:23: And they shall teach My People the difference between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.

Isa.2:3: And many people shall go and say, “Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths:” for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

John 1: God,Life, Recep tion, Mission, Witness.

Isa 13:16   Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.

Again, these events are twofold. Once for what the Medes and Persians would do to the old Babylon kingdom when the 'house of Judah' were captives, and then another for the destruction of this New Babylon kingdom, which is upon us today. The second example is in the spiritual sense, so don't get all shook up about a literal 'dashing to pieces' for our near future.
Probably the reason why God's Word is taken out of context so often, citing this verse as an example, is because of not understanding God's Order of events and a lack of concern for history.

Isa 13:17   Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it.
18
Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare children.

Gold and silver, the most stable form of money supply on earth, will not even be able to prevent this event of Babylon's destruction Nothing will stop this event of Babylon's (confusion) destruction with The True Messiah Christ Jesus coming in Power. If you remember all the being 'with child' analogies of those in confusion (Babylon), who go whoring after the 'false messiah' and are with child, they all apply here.

Isa 13:19   And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees' excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

What did God do to Sodom and Gomorrah?  He destroyed it with a great burning Are we not seeing today in the world, an attempt to re-establish this Sodom and Gomorrah system upon earth? Know then, that the closer the world situation approaches or can be likened to Sodom and
