Moreover, it is heading straight for us; J E Bradburn.

A storm is heading our way, but not the conventional storm we all associate with bad weather; (although that too is on the cards). The storm I am envisioning is the one only a few in this world are aware of. It is a political, religious scenario aimed at a world that is very much unprepared for anything we have ever seen before in our lifetime, on this fallen planet earth.

The beginning of this storm is just starting in earnest, in this man’s year of 2018

Already we have heard the rumblings of thunder over the past years; they are however becoming louder by the hour, but unfortunately falling on deaf ears; and sightless eyes.

Therefore, I am going to point out these rumblings to those who wish to know, and consider doing something personally about it, while “wailing and gnashing of teeth” await those who do not.

Apostasy means to fall away from the truth.  Therefore, an apostate is someone who has once believed and then rejected the truth of God.  Apostasy is a rebellion against God because it is a rebellion against truth.  In the Old Testament God warned the Jewish people about their idolatry and their lack of trust in Him.  In the New Testament, the epistles warn us Gentiles (Nations) about not falling away from the truth. Apostasy is a very real and dangerous threat.

Apostasy has to occur on this earth first before we see the advent of the antichrist; he cannot appear until there is sufficient support for God and His system of things, but we are warned that Apostasy must come first. It is already taking place in great numbers throughout this secular and atheistic world reaching saturation point in the not too distant future.

Daniel 7 in his dream gives us an insight of what this fourth beast may represent, and an image of his ferocity.

Daniel 7:7 (KJV) After this 2I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.

A fourth beast: This is not Rome because it has the “ten horns” (10 Kings) when it is first seen. Moreover, these ten horns are not seen until the time of the end. The beast of Revelation 13:1—10 combines in himself all these resemblances.

Revelation 13:1-10 (KJV)

01 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

02 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

03 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.

04 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, “Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?”

05 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. (3 years & 6 months).

06 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.

07 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.

08 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

09 If any man have an ear, let him hear.

10 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints

Daniel 7:23 (KJV) Thus he said, ‘The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.

Thushe said. Giving an additional interpretation”

Great iron teeth. Literally two (or two rows of) teeth, great ones the residue the rest i.e. the other three beasts, which will be co-existent; do not destroy or succeed one another like the kingdoms in chapter two; but are trampled on by the fourth beast.

Daniel 7:12 (KJV) As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time.

Before = in front of, as in verses Dan 7:19, 13, 20, and 6: 10—13, 22, 26, &c. Chaldee kedām, as in Ezra 4: 18, 23; 7: 14, 19; and frequently in Dan 7:2—5.

Rest of the beasts: the three mentioned in verse 4—7 as co-existing.

They had, &c = their dominion was caused to pass away.

Their lives were prolonged = a lengthening of their life was given to them: the remaining three after the fourth beast had been destroyed.

Daniel 7: 2—5 (KJV)

2. Daniel spake and said, “I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea.

The great sea: i.e. the Mediterranean Sea, but more significantly; the Sea, denoting the peoples of the earth, as interpreted for us in: Daniel 7: 17 These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth.’

3. And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another.

Four great beasts: These are not the four dominions of Chapter 2. They stand up one after the other, and each stands, successively, in the place of the other. These are to arise “in the days

of” those last “ten kings” of Daniel 2:44. These continue the last of Nebuchadnezzar’s last dominion, and do exist together. (See note on verse 12 Above).

4. The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man’s heart was given to it.

the first, &c. Cannot be Babylon, for this had already risen, and was within two years of its end (See notes on verse 1 above). Daniel could not see the kingdom arise now. He had said, “Thou art this head of gold” Daniel 2:28; but Nebuchadnezzar himself had been dead twenty-three years, and these are “four kings which shall arise” (Verse 17) Therefore Babylon is not included.

Like. These descriptions will be easily recognised by those who shall see them arise.

5 And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it , ‘Arise, devour much flesh’.

It raised up itself: or, was made to stand.

on one side: i.e. partially.

Three ribs &c. This is not interpreted by the angel. The interpretation by man  are diverse, conflicting, and are unnecessary.

Daniel 7:17 (KJV) These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth.

Daniel 7:18 (KJV) But the saints of the MOST HIGH shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever.

These great beasts &c. In verses 17—18 we have therefore the interpretation of this vision, which needs no further interpretation by man.

Shall arise. The two, which had already arisen, cannot therefore be included: viz. Babylon and Medo-Persia, which almost (at this time) equalled Babylon in extent. The vision is not continuous history, BUT THE PROPHECY OF A CRISIS: and refers to the ten toes of the fifth power of Daniel 2. (See note on verse 12 above). In this, and in each successive vision we are always directed to the end and consummation. Cp Verses Daniel 7:26; 8:17—19; 9:26; 11:40; 12:4,9. 13. Matthew 24:14—15.

TODAY THAT TEN-NATION CONFEDERACY EXISTS, waiting to be empowered. That ten-nation confederacy is called the Western European Union. The following is documentation that this ten-nation group is now in existence. (Getting bigger by the day)

Notice that of the 28 nations that make up the EU only ten are permanent members. The others are associate members or associate partners or observers. The following is a decision taken June 14 2001.

*Following a decision taken on 14 June 2001, the Secretary-General stated during the 1352nd meeting of the Council of Western European Union on 28 June 2001 that, with regard to the period from 1 January 2002, the Member States deemed it unnecessary, in present and foreseeable circumstances, to make any formal change to the statuses of non-full members.

Today, there are only ten full members of what is called the Western European Union, the stage is set for the antichrist to come and bring these ten nations together. Today the EU is preparing to elect a permanent president and to give him great power. We also notice that there is now associations of Nations that border on the Southern Mediterranean, these nations are entering into an association with the EU.

Bible prophecy is being fulfilled exactly as it was given by God 2600 years ago. These and other fulfilled prophecies prove beyond any possibility of a doubt that God is the Sovereign Lord of the universe and that He knows the end from the beginning.

The inexplicable question is why men do not bow before Him and acknowledge His Lordship. If so many prophecies have been fulfilled in great detail, the remaining prophecies will also be fulfilled in the same way.

They will go down to make a deal with a coming prince, a prince who is not the true Messiah but a false one. Yes "many" in the Judeo-Christian family of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob will go to the table of the coming prince of darkness and make a covenant with this apparent global mega-dealer. THIS IS AN AWFUL TRUTH BUT GOD ALWAYS WARNS HIS COVENANT PEOPLE OF THINGS TO COME.

The initial ploy of this false prince is to present himself as a global peacemaker and power broker. He will apparently sell the deal as a temporary borrowing of power from the kings and national rulers, especially of the G-7 nations. He will probably say that this 7 year sovereignty sharing treaty with the western nations is just an "emergency measure" to be taken just temporarily until the Utopian vision of a New World Order can be firmly established.

This future great world leader will assume power by means of a sovereignty sharing treaty with Israel and the G-7/G-8 nations. This prince who is to come may even promise to hand back the political power to the rulers of the nations at the end of the 7 years. However, during that time he will reveal himself to be a false messiah. He will be the coming prince of darkness (Abaddon; bad by name and nature) prophesied to come in the apocalyptic passages of the Holy Scriptures, Basically he will say to Israel…

What a lie that will be! Yet the nations will have no choice. They have stated publicly that internationalism needs a "strong hand from somewhere".

·        They believe in man.

·        They are Utopians.

·        They are humanists,

·        This means both secular humanists and religious humanists.

·        They believe a man with charisma can initiate the humanistic dream of a New World Order.

·        They desperately want to see it firmly established.

·        Nuclear disarmament,

·        The assurance of middle east and global 'peace and security',

·        Freedom from hunger,

·        World health,

·        Global economic equality,

·        Global warming,

·        Global eco-salvation.

These are all burning issues that they believe can be addressed by this "strong leadership", and so they await 'the man'.

The dream of achieving this man centred Utopian happiness (without God) is not new, it goes back a long way. It hails from the ancient post flood Tower of Babel. At that time Nimrod and his mother/wife Semiramis attempted to gather the peoples under one humanistic politico-religious covering. Of course, they left God out of the picture, and so they failed.

Nevertheless, the dream lives on in the humanistic pantheistic heart. It has been fostered down through time by a host of hidden entities, which we won't go into here.

Therefore, the world is waiting for this to happen. All that is required is the appropriate crisis and the emergence of the prophesied "crisis manager" onto the stage of history.

The Bible tells us about this in,

Daniel 9:27 (KJV) And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the confirmation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

This humanistic covenant with "many" is what initiates the final seven years of God's determined dealings with His Jewish and Christian people. These are all the people who claim allegiance to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

The coming world history will not be a pleasant time for people of conscience and Christian devotion. Many will fall away from the faith in the coming great apostasy spoken of by our Apostle Paul. But we can rejoice in this one thing. God is in control. He sets the agenda of holy history. In all of this God's sovereign purposes will overrule. When all is said and done, God will bring forth the remnant of His people in a victorious deliverance and return. They will be refined from tribulation and Messiah will return in vengeance and deliverance of His people at a place (or places) knowable spiritually as, the "sheep-pens" of "Bozrah” (See Apostasy).

Appendix 90 THE “TIMES”, AND NUMBERED DAYS “DAYS” OF DANIEL. 7:25; 8:14; 12: 7, 11, 12.

There are five1 specific periods of “time” and “days” mentioned in the Book of Daniel (7:25; 8:14; 12:7; 11:12). In addition to these five, we have the great period of the “seventy sevens”

(or weeks) of years in Chapter 9. Sixty-nine of these was completed at the “cutting off” of the Messiah; (crucifixion), the last or “seventieth seven” is yet to come (See Ap 91). All the other five periods of time in the book are to be referred to, and are standardised, so to speak, by this last “seven”. The seventy weeks (sevens) are confessedly to be reckoned as years. Therefore, based on a Jewish year of 360 days, one “seven” is 360 X 7 = 2,520 days. The terminus a quo of 1,4,5,6 (see diagram) is manifestly determined by the term “in the midst of the week” (the last “seven” of years), of the standard (Column 3): that is, 1,260 days, or 3½ years from either end of the column.“The prince that shall come” (Antichrist) “will make a2 covenant with many for one week” (i.e. seven years).

Daniel 9:27(KJV) And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the confirmation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

After 3½ years, on grounds not stated, he breaks this covenant (or “league”, 11:23).

Daniel 11:25 (KJV) And he shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south shall be stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not stand: for they shall forecast devices against him.

forecast = To estimate or calculate in advance, especially to predict.

devices =  a plan or scheme for effecting a purpose.

The daily sacrifice is “taken away”, the “abomination” (Asherah) set up, and “Jacob’s trouble” (Jeremiah 30:7) commences and continues for the remainder of the “seven”: viz: for the 1,260 days or 3½ years. It is this “midst of the week” that determines both the a quo (in the computation of time, the day a quo is not to be counted, but the day ad quem is always included), and the ad quem (A final limiting point in time) of these Numbered Days.

Jeremiah 30:7(KJV) Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.

That day. The interpretation here is of the day of Babylon’s overthrow. The application is of the yet future Great Tribulation of Matthew 24. This is in contrast with the day of restoration.

Great, &c. = too great to have another like it.

Jacob’s. Not Israel’s, for it is the natural seed that is here in question, not the spiritual.

See notes on Gen 32:28 Jacob = contender (Gen 25:22) this is used of the natural Jacob and his natural seed. Israel is used for spiritual Jacob and his spiritual seed.

Israel = “God commands, orders, or rules”. Man attempts it but always in the end fails.

Genesis 43:6 (KJV) Israel Note the name. Jacob is used for his weakness (Gen 42:36, &c), Israel of his resignation to God’s will. In this use of the names Jacob and Israel, men might well invent a Jacobite and Israelite authorship, as well as an Elohist and Jehovist theory.

Genesis 45:26, 28 (KJV)

26. Out of his loins. This is said in order to distinguish the numbers sixty-six and seventy from Stephen’s seventy-five, in Acts 7:14, which includes Jacob as well as all his kindred (which are not included in the direct descendants of this verse). These extra nine are made up in part by the five in 1 Chron 7:14—20 (Machir, Gilead, Shuthelah, Tahath, Eden, as in Sept: also here).

28 Goshen. The land east of Memphis, suitable for grazing, called “the field of Zoan”. Zoan (or Tanis) mentioned in the Inscriptions as containing non-Egyptian inhabitants and Semites.

In Daniel 8:14 (KJV) And he said unto me, “Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.

cleansed = vindicated or sanctified.

It is stated, “then shall the Sanctuary be cleansed3 With regard to this “cleansing”, all the periods , 1,2,3,4,5,6 (see Diagram) synchronise at the end (See Ap 89);                                                    while the last two columns  (5 and 6) are extended and prolonged beyond the close of the 1,260 days by two significant periods of days, viz. 30 days and 75 days respectively. The first of these of these, 1,290 days is 1,260 + 30 = 1,290. And the 30 days here may be taken as a “Ve-Adar” or intercalary (inserted in a calendar) month of 30 days of “cleansingfollowing directly after the destruction of the false Messiah, and the breakup of his confederacy. These thirty days may possibly be the period allotted for the construction of the new and glorious Sanctuary of Ezekiel 40—43,

which is to be erected after the destruction and removal of the Jewish temple which will have been built by the sons of Israel some time previously to its profanation  by the Antichrist—as the antitype of Antiochus Epiphanes.

With regard to the 1,335 days of Dan 12:12: This is 1,260 days with an excess of 75 days. This again being an excess of 45 days beyond the 1,290 of Dan 12:11. 1,335 is, therefore,

1,260 + 30 + 45.

Daniel 12:12 (KJV) Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.

Daniel 12:11 (KJV) And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

If the 30 days are occupied with the “cleansing”, i.e. with the “justifying” or “making righteous” a new and glorious “Sanctuary”, then it may be that the further 45 days, over and above the 1,260, will cover the preparation time for the fulfilment of the forty-fifth psalm (such preparation  including, the resurrection to life of those concerned in Dan 12:2), in order that the nuptials of the king may be celebrated as described in such wonderful and minute detail in that Psalm.1

Psalm 45 King James Version (KJV)

01 My heart is indicting a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

02 Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.

03 Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty.

04 And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.

05 Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; whereby the people fall under thee.

06 Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.

07 Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

08 All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.

09 Kings' daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir.

10 Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house;

11 So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him.

12 And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.

13 The king's daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold.

14 She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee.

15 With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king's palace.

16 Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth.

17 I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever.

Compare Dan 12:2 (KJV) Below.

Daniel 12:2 (KJV) And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

In connection with this period (1,335 days), we have the only Beatitude in the book! (Beatitude: any of the declarations of blessedness made by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount).

Daniel 12:12 (KJV) “Blessed (ashrēy) is he that waiteth (= is steadfast) and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days”

A blessed “lot” indeed for those who will have passed through the “Trouble” and are counted worthy to be participators in the scenes of glory and triumph of the King when He is united to restored Israel in that Day, as portrayed in the forty-fifth psalm!

In examining the diagram and the references in the book, it will be seen;

1.      That the only one of these five periods of “time” and “days” that presents any serious difficulty is that of the 2,300 days.

2.      That its terminus ad quem is the same as the others, viz, the end of the seventieth seven is clear from Dan 8:14, which gives it as being marked by the “cleansing of the Sanctuary”. Reckoning backwards, therefore, the terminus a quo of this period is seen to be 220 days short of the commencement of the seventieth “seven”.

It is not clearly revealed what event or events will mark the commencement of these 2300 days, but it will probably be some political crisis connected with the confederated kingdoms under the sway of the Antichrist. The key is possibly to be found in Daniel 8, typified by the contention between the ram and he-goat representing Medo Persia and Greece. But, though the terminus a quo of this period is not given to us in plain language (like e.g. the “midst of the week” of Dan 9:27), yet it will be known to, and understood by, the People of God, who pass through “the Trouble” time of the seventieth “seven”, for “the wise (in that day) shall understand.

Daniel 12:10 (KJV) Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

tried = refined.

wicked…wickedly…wicked = lawless.

lawlessness…lawless. Hebrew rāshā‘. Ap 44.x. wickedness, in the sense of activity in the fallen nature (Job 3:17. Isa 53:9; 57:20—21) where it refers to the impious and ungodly, or robbers.

Understand. The Maskīlīm of verse 3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever.

If the “time of trouble” of Dan 12:1 is a “time” like the “time” of Dan 7:25; 12:7 (Nos 1 and 4 on chart), year, then there are six specific periods of time in the book of Daniel, in addition to the seventieth, or last “seven”. If so, the “time” of Daniel 12:1 suggests that “Jacob’s trouble” will be closed by a “time” (or year) of acutest “tribulation.” Does this correspond with “the acceptable year” of Isaiah 61:2, immediately preceding the “Vengeance?”

The Diagram will illustrate the above remarks

Daniel 9:24—27.

For the meaning of this passage, reference must be made to the notes, and especially to the Structures, which are always the best commentary and the surest guide to interpretation. We may set out the three divisions of the whole period on the diagram (below).

1. THE FIRST PERIOD is simple, being the “seven sevens”, or 49 years.

II. THE SECOND PERIOD. The “threescore and two sevens” or 434 years, from 405 B.C. to A.D.  29 = the year of the “cutting off” of Messiah (See Ap 50, pages 60 &61)  This was 483 years from the issuing of the decree in 454 B.C. (i.e. 49 +434 = 483years).

The “cutting off” of Messiah is stated as being “after” the “threescore and two weeks”. The word “after”, here, evidently means, and it is intended to be understood as indicating, the completion of the period named; i.e. on the expiration of the sixty-two sevens will “Messiah be cut off”.

Beyond this exactness, it is hardly necessary for us to go on.

III. THE THIRD PERIOD. This is the one seven, i.e. the seventieth (or “last”), seven which has still to be accounted for. That it must be yet future seems certain, from the agreement of its events with those of the visions of chapters 7—12 (Ap 89), and the numbered “days” of chapters 8:14 and 12:7, 11,12 (Ap 90); also from the fact that none of the six definite events  (of 9:24), which mark its end has as yet taken place.1

These belong to the whole seventy-sevens, and are thus connected with the seventieth or last seven, being the object and end of the whole prophecy. The following three, among other reasons, may be added:-

1. If the seventieth, or “one seven”, is to be reckoned from the cutting off of Messiah in direct, continuous, and historic sequence, then it leads us nowhere—certainly not to any of the six events  of verse 24, which are all categorically stated to relate to Daniel’s People, “all Israel” (verse &), and to the holy City “Jerusalem”.

No interpretation, which transfers these six events to Gentiles or to Gentile times, is admissible.

If they are continuous, then there is no point or crisis in the Acts of the Apostles, which marks their end. If they coincided with any events of importance, such as the end of Peter’s ministry or beginning of that of Paul, or Acts 12 & 13, that would be something. But there is nothing.

2. Messiah was to “have nothing” that was His, “after” His cutting off. This clearly points to the crucifixion of Messiah, and the rejection of His Messianic kingdom. For nearly 2000 years Messiah has “had nothing” of all the many “glorious things” which have been spoken of Him, in connection with Himself, or with His People Israel.

3. This last, or “one seven” of years, is divided into two distinct equal parts (See Ap 90), and the division takes place in connection with an event  which has no connection whatever with any event which has yet taken place. “Messiah did not “make a (not the) covenant” of any kind, either with Israel or anyone else, at the end of, or “after” the sixty-ninth week; nor did He “break” any covenant three and a half years later. Man may “make” and “break” covenants, but Divine Covenants are never broken.

On the other hand: of “the prince that shall come” it is distinctly stated that he shall do both these very things (verses 26—27); and, in Ap 89 &90 both are connected with the “time of the end”.

Hence, we are forced to the conclusion that this last seven of years still awaits its fulfilment; and this fulfilment must be as literal and complete as

that of all the other parts  of this vision and prophecy; for the end must be the glorious  consummation for Israel of verse 24, the complete destruction  of “the coming prince” (the false Messiah or Antichrist), and the setting up of Messiah’s kingdom. Nothing less will satisfy all the requirements of Daniel’s vision of the “seventy weeks”.

The Hebrew word rendered [translated] “week” is shābūa‘, and means, simply, a “septad”, a “hebdomad”, or a seven, hence a week, because it is a seven (of days). But in this passage it is confessedly used of a seven of years; and this of necessity, for no other seven of any other portion of time will satisfy the prophecy and fall within its terminus a quo, and the terminus ad quem.

Seventy of these sevens of years (or 490 years) are the one subject of this prophecy. We are told exactly when they would commence, and how they were to end. They sum up within their bounds, all the then counsels of god as to His future dealings with His People Israel; for they are “determined” (the angel said to Daniel) “upon thy People, and upon thy Holy City” (verse 24). These words cannot have any other interpretation than all Israel (verse 7), and Jerusalem, and the Holy Sanctuary; for that had been the subject of Daniel’s prayer, to which this prophecy was sent as the specific answer. (See verses. 2, 7, 16,17,18,19, and especially verse 24.)

These “seventy of sevens [of years]” are divided into three distinct and separate periods:-

·        The seven sevens, or 49 years.

·        The sixty-two sevens or 434 years 49 + 434 = 483 years

·        The one seven, or 7 years 483 + 7 = 490 years

The terminus a quo of the whole period is the issuing of a decree “to restore and to build (or rather, rebuild) Jerusalem.”

The terminus ad quem of the whole period is the cleansing of the Sanctuary. This is also the end of all the visions of Daniel in chapters. 7—12 (Ap 89); and all the numbered “days” of 7:25; 8:14; and 12:7,11,12, have this cleansing as their object and end.

As to the whole period, Daniel is bidden by the angelic Hierophant to “understand… and consider” (verse 23); while, as to its three separate divisions, Daniel is to “know therefore and understand” (verse 25). See the structures of these passages, pages 1196,* 1198*, 1199*.

THE FIRST PERIOD. The seven sevens (or 49 years). These commence with “the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem.

This was in the first month, Nisan, 454 B.C. (see Ap 50, pages 60, 67, and 70). Hanani’s report to Nehemiah was made in the ninth month Chisleu, in 455 B.C., three months before; both months being in the “twentieth year of Artaxerxes

See notes on:-

pages 615. SPECIAL NOTE ON 2 Chronicles 36:21.

Three Periods of seventy years are assigned to these three respectively, and it is necessary that they should be differentiated.

i. The “SERVITUDE” began in the fourth year of JEHOIAKIM, and the first of NEBUCHADNEZZAR, when the “Kingdom” passed under CHALDEAN rule for seventy years (Jer25:1). This period closed with the capture of BABYLON by DARIUS the MEDIAN (ASTYAGES), and the “Decree” of Cyrus to rebuild the Temple. it lasted from 496—426 B.C..

ii The “CAPTIVITY” commenced, and is dated by EZEKIEL form the carrying away to BABYLON of JEHOIAKIM, in the eighth year of NEBUCHADNEZZAR,  (2 Kings 24:8—16). This was in 489 B.C. Consequently, when the “Servitude” ended 426 B.C., the “Captivity” had lasted for sixty-three (9 X 7) years.

Seven years later Cyrus died, in 419 .B.C. That year (419) is further notable for:

1.      The appointment of Nehemiah as Governor of Jerusalem by Cambysses (Neh 5:14).

2.      The completion of “the wall” in fifty-two days (Neh 6:15); and

3.      The fact that it marks the end of the fifth of the “seven sevens” of Dan 9:25. See App 50, VI, page 60; and Ap 50 VII (5), page 67. The “Captivity” lasting from 489 to 419 B.C.

iii The “DESOLATIONS” commenced with the beginning of the third and last siege of JERUSALEM by NEBUCHADNEZZAR in 479 B.C., and cover a period of “seventy years”, ending the second year of DARIUS HYSTASPIS: i.e. in 409B.C.

This “threescore and en years “which is referred to here (2Chron 36:21), is the fulfilment of Lev 26:32—35, and has reference to “the LAND”.

It is this period of which DANIEL says he  “understood by books”,  as being the number of the years that Jehovah “would accomplish in the Desolations of Jerusalem” (Dan 9:2).

The DARIUS here (Dan 9:1) is evidently CYRUS, the son of ASTYGES  (see notes on page 618, and Ap 57); and as the first year of his reign was 426 B.C. it follows that seventeen years had, then, yet to run before the “Desolations” of the LAND were ended, in 409 B.C.

Hence, DANIEL’S  prayer, that follows resulted in going to him the famous prophecy of the “seventy sevens” of years  contained in Daniel 9:20—27.

The CHRONOLOGICAL Order of EVENTS, and the STRUCTURE based thereon, revolutionises the traditional view, which treats this one book as two books; places EZRA historically as preceding Nehemiah; and inserts the book of ESTHER between EZRA, chapters 6 & 7, instead of before EZRA-NEHEMIAH. (See date Esther 1:3)

Those who thus dislocate the two divisions of this book proceed to speak of certain portions as being “misplaced”, and “not original”, and as having “false connections”. These so called “discrepancies”, after having thus been first made by the commentators, are charged home on the inspired writers themselves.

That the “difficulties” exist only in the minds of the critics will be seen if we note the following facts:-

1.      The fixed points, common to the two parts of the book, determine for us the true position of all the other parts, and result in giving us the Chronological Structure of the whole of page 617.

2.      The traditional view places the building of the temple by Ezra as coming many years before Nehemiah 1. But this is inconceivable in view of the report brought by Hanani to Nehemiah concerning the desolations (Neh 1:3) and repeated to the king (Neh 2:3).

3.      Nehemiah would surely have inquired about the welfare of the 42,360 exiles who are supposed to have returned to Jerusalem, and not about “the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity” (Neh 1:2).

4.      When the wall was finished, “the houses were not yet builded”(Neh 7:1—4).

5.      When the feast of the seventh month was kept (Neh 8), “the foundation of the temple of the LORD was not yet laid” (Ezra 3!—6).

6.      When the people dwelt in their “ceiled houses” (to overlay the ceiling of a building or room) with wood, plaster, etc), the house of the LORD still lay waste (Hag 1:1—4).These facts are more certain than all chronology, and are more important and conclusive than all reasoning.

7.      The names of some of the kings mentioned have been hitherto regarded as proper names; whereas, according to Sir Henry Rawlinson, Professor Sayce, The Encyclopaedia Britannica, and The Century Encyclopaedia of Names, three at least are appellatives [Of or relating to the assignment of names] (like Pharaoh, Abimelech, Czar, Shah, Sultan); viz. AHASUERUS, which means “The venerable king”, ARTAXERXES, which means “The great king”, and DARIUS, which means “the maintainer”. See the Genealogy of the Persian kings (Ap 57). If these appellatives denote separate and different individual kings, no place can be found for them all on the page of history.

8.      See the longer notes on special passages at the end of Nehemiah, page 653.

Nehemiah 1:1 The words. Divine revelation in writing must be made up of words (see Ap 47). The “words” here were written, chronologically, long before the book of Ezra. See the notes on page 618 above.

Nehemiah = comforter of. (=appointed by) Jehovah. From 10:1 he was one of the “princes” (9:38) who signed the Solemn Covenant: a prince of Judah for the “king’s seed” and “princes” were taken to Babylon (Dan 1:3), according to the prophecy in 2 Kings 20: 17—18. The next who signed was Zidkijah, a son of king Jehoiakim (1 Chron 3:16). Hanani (verse 2), his brother or near kinsman (a shortened form of Hananiah, Cp verse 2, and 7:2), was another “prince”, renamed Shadrach (Dan 1:3—6), Nehemiah was the Sheshbazzar (Sheshbazzar definition O sun-god, defend the lord! (Ezra 1:8, 11). Five parties are seen in action in this book: Nehemiah, Ezra, the People, their enemies, and the God of heaven.

Nehemiah 2:1Artaxerxes = the great king. An appellative like Pharaoh, Czar &c.) used of several kings of Persia. Synonymous with Artachshast (Arta = great, Kshatza = king, preserved in the modern “Shah”). This Artaxerxes was the great king Astyages (of Herodotus), and ARSAMES (of Darius Hystaspis’ Inscription), the husband of Esther, and father of Cyrus. He was also the Ahasuerus of Esther 1:1, which means “the venerable king”; and he was also “Darius the Mede” of Ezra 6:14 and Dan 5:31.

also see Ap 50, 57, and 58). & Ap 47. These Appendixes are extremely large undertakings if one wishes to study the Bible O.T. in detail. It is my advice therefore, that if anyone does wish to study these Appendixes in detail should find, or order a copy of, The Companion Bible with Appendixes. There is a great deal of knowledge to be gained for the ardent student, as well as unravelling the correct facts, which have been hidden over the thousands of years, by those wishing to deceive.

People today are of the mindset that the events of the Old and New Testaments all happened back in the "Biblical days" of human history. They fail to grasp the awesome truth that we are still living in Biblical days. They never ended. What will yet happen on the face of this Earth in the years to come has already been prophesied and penned in the Bible. There remain things written in the Bible, in both the New an Old Testaments, that are yet to come to pass.

The Bible deals with the history of man's world from the beginning of the world, across historical time and into our present time and forward until the very end of time as we understand it. You are living RIGHT NOW in Biblical days. The great "I AM" of Exodus 3:14, who spoke to Moses from the burning bush, STILL IS and speaks to us today through His written Holy Word and the Holy Spirit. And, today, that ancient malignant spirit of Satan is also still whispering in the ears of modern man, "Yea hath God said?" (Genesis 3:1)

Although the prophets and disciples have long since passed from our world, what they wrote lives on just as relevant today as it was in the day it was written. If you really trust the Bible, it can and will tell you where we are today and what is about to come to pass in the very near future, not just in the sweet bye-n-bye. We will now shift gears from, "In the beginning" to the "Beginning of the end."
